This would be Jonas W. Seeberg, CPO/LPO, FAAOP Founder/Owner of Real Life Prosthetics, Michelle Gent-Jamin, PT, DPT, Founder/Owner of Align Rehabilitation and Tom Zdon who is a double amputee and patient of both. Tom just recently (within the year) had osseointegration surgery (2-stage surgery) for a OPRA Implant System.

Definition of Osseointegration:
Osseointegration is the direct structural and functional connection between living bone and the surface of a load-bearing artificial implant.

Jonas had Tom's existing myoelectric arm retrofitted for the OPRA Implant System and it was delivered this week. Michelle has been working with Tom getting ready for the delivery of his retrofitted myoelectric arm. Now that it is delivered Tom will be going through the COAPT Pattern Recognition Software so that he can use his arm efficiently.

Tom is only a handful of amputees that have gotten the transhumeral (upper extremity) OPRA Implant as it's not US FDA approved. Tom received a Humanitarian Device Exception. The transferal (lower extremity) OPRA Implant is currently US FDA approved. Tom had the surgery at Johns Hopkins.

In addition, remember when Jonas and Michelle talked about having a bigger space especially for Michelle for PT? In May, specifically May 3rd, we will be having a grand opening of Align Rehabilitation in the suite next to where Real Life Prosthetics is currently located in Abingdon. Align Rehabilitation will occupy the front half of the suite while Real Life Prosthetics expands their lab to the back half. Michelle will have an awesome space with lots of equipment to ensure amputees get the PT they deserve! In less than a year... both Jonas and Michelle have gotten closer to their goals they talked about last May with you!

It is interesting how osseointegration came about unintentionally by Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark which has led to dental implants and now osseointegration for amputees. The work is carried on by his son Dr. Rickard Branemark.
